Arms Acres is looking for highly motivated Milieu Counselors to join our team in Carmel, NY. The Milieu Counselor functions under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, Clinical Manager and/or Program Director. In this role, you will facilitate communication with all patients and assists in maximizing program participants.

Current Shifts Available:

Full-time: Sunday through Thursday 11:45pm - 11:15am

Per diem available for all shifts!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a therapeutic environment
  • Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with patients' visitors and other facility personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient information
  • Observe patient's behavior and record observation either in chart and/or communication log, reports and follows direction of immediate supervisor in the event of crisis or emergency situation
  • Communicate during shift change meeting, including but not limited to, room check and successful hand off of unit
  • Conduct room checks in all patient rooms as required throughout shift and document(s) appropriately
  • Verify appropriate headcount and room conditions
  • Coordinate, set up and complete the admission process, if needed, including but not limited to, searches and orientation to unit
  • Conduct spirituality and all other assigned lectures and groups
  • Is available for crisis intervention/emergency back-up as needed
  • Attend meals with unit, monitors line, remains with the patients during the assigned meal period
  • Attend in-service education programs as assigned to learn new treatments and procedures and develop skills
  • Assist facility personnel in patient care, patient intervention, family intervention, safety, fire, disaster and other areas necessary to maintain a safe environment and acts as fire marshall when required
  • Adhere to facility policy for emergency situations
  • Assist with fitness as requested
  • Provide support services for case manager, including but not limited to, phone calls, escorts
  • Utilize and maintain radios appropriately
  • Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience in human services or healthcare field, with direct patient care experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of alcoholism and addiction preferred
